Biosphere News Bites
April 2014
In addition to the regular Biosphere Bulletins we send you, focusing on a current theme of our environment and including upcoming events, we will also send out these 'news bites' on natural developments in our Biosphere area which we think you might like to hear about.

Now that things are quite literally hotting up, we have a host of news to tell you about so you can make the most of the Easter break period - enjoy!
Get Out!

A reminder of the great range of outdoor and nature events happening over the Easter period - see our last Bulletin for all the details.
These include a Biosphere healthwalk on the downs east of Brighton on Monday (7th April); Lambing open days at Saddlescombe Farm next weekend (12-13th April); and Easter egg hunts at Devil's Dyke on Easter weekend (19th-21st April).

All of this month, public transport users can enjoy 2 for 1 entry to a range of visitor attractions across the South Downs national park - don't miss out!

Also, some advance notice of our biggest event of the year: the Sussex Festival of Nature will be held on Sunday 22nd June at Stanmer Park near Brighton.
We hope that this will be the opportunity for everyone to celebrate becoming a new UNESCO World Biosphere site then, so do please come along and join the (free) party!

Do you love Stanmer Park, and want to have a say in its future?
A major funding bid is being prepared by Brighton & Hove City Council to make improvements here, as the main gateway to the national park. Your views on the proposals would be welcomed - find out more about the Stanmer Estate Restoration Project and master plan, and please take part in the short survey by 2nd May.

Are you a budding photographer with a passion for our local area and environmental issues?
Arts education body FotoDocument is looking to commission ten new photo essays to be exhibited in public spaces as an arts story trail, focused on 'One Planet Living' principles - from transport to health and energy to economy.
Apply by 14th April to be one of the ten successful photo documentary commissions.

Could you be a 'friend' of a group of adults with learning disabilities, who are doing valuable environmental work at the Railway Land local nature reserve in Lewes and beyond?
If so, they would love to have local people supporting the innovative 'Nature Corridors for All' project on Facebook.
