Tell us about your business

We are the world’s only not-for-profit eco and ethical activewear brand. Our mission is to empower and inspire women to feel their best and do good with our ecological and ethical high-quality swim/activewear. Our closed-loop activewear creates positive social & environmental impact, with RubyMoon’s products certified to use 42% fewer carbon emissions when compared with similar products. Every single piece of clothing we sell cleans the oceans and saves turtles, seals, and dolphins. We donate 100% of our profit into micro-loans for women entrepreneurs globally, so that every single purchase empowers at least one woman, and every single item sold changes a life for good.

How does RubyMoon support nature and sustainable practices in the biosphere?

As a registered Community Interest Company, RubyMoon has integrated into its business structure 9 of the 17 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We support marine conservation by cleaning oceans, using and transforming regenerated waste into our beautiful Gym To Swim clothing. Our slow design and lower consumption mean that we invest in pieces that are developed to be stronger, more resistant to chlorine, salt, sun and sea water. Our certified dying and printing techniques respect the environment and your body, whilst allowing allow efficient use of ink and fabric. We strive to maintain a zero-waste approach by using packaging or tags only when strictly necessary.

What is RubyMoon doing to promote sustainable activity/development in The Living Coast?

Our journey begins in collaboration with Healthyseas.org – an NGO that collects ghost fishing nets from the oceans and protects its biodiversity. By raising awareness of the damage ghost fishing nets do to marine animals and reducing the number of animals being entangled, we ensure the need for sustainable activity and development is heard. The fabric used in all our garments is made with ECONYL® yarn, a 100% regenerated nylon fibre made from nylon waste otherwise polluting the Earth, like fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic rescued from all around the world. The result is a high-quality, durable material that is certified to be twice as strong: prolonging the life of your clothing is the greatest environmental impact that you can make with regards to clothing.

How do you help spread awareness of The Living Coast and its values you share?

RubyMoon’s restorative approach and brand values mean we are deeply committed to life below water. We encourage our supporters to get involved with sustainable activity in the living coast by promoting interaction with the sea. Each month we host various events like sea swims and ocean days, which are a super fun way to empower one another, spread awareness, and inspire better living practices for our oceans. We also host educational events like our circle of impact masterclass series, which promotes circular thinking for business, as well as hosting Collaborations and discussions with industry experts about circular fashion.
