City Nature Challenge at Wilding Waterhall

A fun free event for the whole family!

At Waterhall Local Nature Reserve the Ranger team are inviting you to join them searching high and low for plants and creatures great and small!

Join residents in 450+ cities across the world in an epic, global mission to record as much wildlife as possible as part of the City Nature Challenge. Your recordings will contribute towards conservation efforts both locally and on a global-scale.

The Rangers will be on hand to help you identify the wildlife you’ve found, and there will be equipment you can use to collect invertebrates so that you can get a closer look at your finds. No need to come along for the whole session, just drop by and stay for as long as you like. Every little bit of extra help we can get recording our wildlife is a fantastic contribution.

Taking part in the City Nature Challenge is easy! 

Simply download the iNaturalist app to your smartphone or tablet and use it to upload photos of any wildlife you see.

You don’t have to be a wildlife expert, as the app will give you some handy suggestions of what it thinks you’ve seen. An online community of scientists and wildlife enthusiasts will then verify your sighting. It’s a great way to learn more about the wildlife around you, and best of all, the records you submit will help inform local and national conservation work!

Meeting point and what to bring

Meet us at the old Golf Course clubhouse.

The postcode listed in this event is inaccurate! It will take you to Saddlescombe Road but a link to the exact meeting point can be found by clicking HERE or use What3words reference ///shape.lamp.beard. The entrance to Waterhall is approximately 400m past the turn off to Devil’s Dyke if coming from the A27 Hove roundabouts.

Parking is free. Pedestrian access to site is easiest across the A27 footbridge from the Green Ridge Windmill to Waterhall Rugby Club then up the chalk track to the clubhouse.

Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Bring any food and drink you need and make sure you have at least 1 smart phone between your group for recording your findings.
