‘Get on yer bike!’ – with the Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge, Sunday 1st July
The Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge was a fun day out at Preston Park on Sunday 1st July, raising money for local good causes and as a celebration of cycling and the world-class environment that we live in.
The Living Coast teamed up with local homeless charity Brighton Housing Trust to create a family event that all ages and abilities could get involved in. By partnering together at this event, we linked our local social and environmental objectives, whilst raising money for great causes and awareness of the issues that they address.
Over a hundred keen cyclists participated in one of the more challenging bike rides ‘Around The Living Coast’ to enjoy the beauty of our UNESCO World Biosphere Region, by cycling a 30 or 58 mile route along the coast and around the South Downs. Local Brighton based not for profit company, CSS Events, organised and supported The Living Coast rides.
Many more people turned up to take the ‘Around the World Challenge’ at the Preston Park velodrome in Brighton, with the aim to collectively ride the entire distance around the world throughout the day – a total of 40,075km! Family-fun entertainment was included such as a “Smoothie bike”.
Cyclists have raised money either for BHT’s work to combat homelessness, including the First Base day centre that supports people who are sleeping rough or insecurely housed in Brighton and Hove, or for other local good causes of their choosing.
