River Ouse embankment repairs

September 6, 2022

Essential flood embankment repairs beside the River Ouse during September and October 2022.

Railway Land Nature Reserve

Repairs to the embankment on the west bank of the Ouse, between the Winterbourne Stream and Southerham Rail Bridge will begin on Monday 5 September 2022.

The embankments help to better protect residential and commercial properties in the Lewes Town Centre West area from river flooding, reduce the exposure of the railway embankment to flood water (which could impact its structural integrity) and protect Lewes Railway Land Nature Reserve and water meadows from exposure to brackish water.
