City Nature Challenge – South Downs Youth Action BioBlitz

South Downs Youth Action is a volunteering programme for people aged 16-25 who want to make a difference for the environment!
About this event
Are you aged 16-25 and want to make a difference for nature and the environment?

Join us in the South Downs National Park for an action day with Amberley Museum. We will be doing a bioblitz of the wildlife habitats within the museum grounds to record as many species of plant, animal and fungus as we can!

Amberley Museum is not just an industrial museum: it’s is an ecological microhabitat, carved out of the South Downs over more than a century during its former life as a chalk quarry.

Join museum staff and volunteers in surveying ancient and regenerating woodland for plants and animals using a range of identification tools (including the app, iNaturalist) and get ahead of the game as part of the City Nature Challenge 2022!

We will also explore how human activity has shaped the local landscape from pre-historic times to the present day and some of the practical demands of maintaining biodiversity at a visitor site.

Amberley Museum is conveniently located adjacent to Amberley train station on the Southampton-to-London line. Free entry to the museum is included in this Youth Action Day, giving you plenty of time to explore our historic collections of light industry, engineering and transport from the South East before or after the session.
